Be sure you are ready for the
University Expansion Pack
NOTE:
This only refers to re-colored objects. Clothes,
hair, floors, walls, etc. will NOT be affected and will work fine with
the expansion pack.
If you've been downloading re-colored objects from
different websites, they may not all be compatible with the University
Expansion Pack.
Some of the coding we "re-colorers" used is being used by
Maxis (the makers of the Sims) in this new expansion pack and therefore,
some of your re-colored objects will be overwritten by some of the new
objects Maxis will be giving you. The result will be that some of
your re-colors may not show at all, some may show as flashing blue
objects, and some may still work fine. We have no way of really
knowing which new objects will conflict with which re-colors. But, the GOOD news
is Maxis actually cooperated with the modding community and gave us our
own line of code and assured us they will NEVER use this line in their
future updates, patches, or expansion packs. So, once we re-colorers
fixed this, we shouldn't have to fix it again. THANK YOU, MAXIS!
However, the BAD news is that you downloaders will have to
download all of your re-colors again (unless you have SimPE and are
capable of fixing the code yourself, in the objects you have downloaded.
If you do have SimPE and want to fix your own downloads, the
instructions are
here.)
All of this was discovered around Feb. 5, 2005, so if
you have re-colored objects that you downloaded previous to this, you
could have some bad ones (remember, all of this has been done in the
beta testing phase, and that's the way it is with betas!)
Most sites that are offering re-colored objects have
been working frantically to update them all for you, so you need to go
back to all those sites and see if they have and re-download all of
them.
When you download the new versions, they will more than
likely have the same name as the originals, so if you put them in your
Sims 2 Downloads folder, they will simply overwrite the originals (be
sure to say "yes" when Windows asks you if you want to replace the
original). If, for some reason, the creator had to rename the
object, you will see two of them in your game in Buy Mode. Simply
delete the one that isn't working and keep the new one.
Once the new versions are installed, when you go into
the game, you will see that they have all reverted back to Maxis default
colors. To fix this, simply go into Buy Mode and click on the
Design Tool, then click on the object and you will get a box which lets
you choose the color you want for the object. (Or, you can delete
the object and buy it again.) You will only have to do this one
time. If the object has been made correctly, it will hold the
re-color once you re-assign it.
Now, with all that said, I can happily inform you that
as of Saturday, Feb. 19, ALL of the objects offered for download on my
free site AND my preferred members site are now University Compatible!
(What a job! Pheeew... )
Thanks to Maxis for cooperating with us.
And MAJOR thanks to Quaxi (SimPE's
creator) and all the wonderful people at
ModTheSims2 (especially Numenor, Delphy, Miche, Pinhead, and
RGiles). Without these people, none of this would be possible! |
