How to keep your computer clean and safe
latest uptodate virus info from Sophos and Symantec
To keep up-to-date on all the latest
security issues, be sure to read Mike
Baynes column in my ABC ezine.
Also, don't miss
SpywareBiz
... a great site, with lots of info about spyware and viruses.
And, here's a great site dedicated to
helping you keep your computer safe:
Tasana Computers
OK gang......we've all accepted that we must be sure to carry and use condoms
in this day and age. Well, it's also very important to practice Safe
Cyber.Remember that without adequate, up-to-date
protection on your computer, you
WILL someday unknowingly pass
a virus on to someone. It's a fact!
If money is the issue, that is no longer an excuse:
You can get FREE virus protection from
Grisoft.
Download and install
AVG for free and remember to go back to the
site EVERY WEEK and get the latest update.
Received an attachment that might be a virus?
Here's all the links to the virus libraries.....also
some links to verify virus hoaxes.
Also, you can run a FREE virus scan
online, from
Trend Micro's Housecall.
Another thing to watch for are programs or websites that add spyware to your
computer. Spyware reports back to the site giving them a report of your
browsing activities. Adaware is a FREE
program which will identify all spyware in your system and allow you to safely
remove it. You can download it here.
Another good freeware one is
Spybot Search & Destroy. I wrote a complete
article on spyware, homepage hijackers, and keyloggers,
which you can read here.
You should also protect yourself from harmful hackers
(referred to in the computer biz as "crackers")
who can get into your
computer when you are connected to the internet. Not only can they see
your personal information, but they can alter your master boot record and render
your computer useless. You can get a FREE
firewall which will block them
by going to www.zonealarm.com
and downloading ZoneAlarm. .
Another great site is Sygate
where you can scan your computer to see if you have open
ports or lurking trojans. It's free and worth the
time.
Get lots more
info at
Computer Cops. Another great site with lots of
free info about security and spyware.
Also, visit
All-Internet-Security.com. Directory of Internet Security Resources: Security Scanner, Anti Hacker, Cracker, Network Solutions, Free Port Monitor, Computer Security, Spyware removal.
