Windows 98
Shutdown/Restart Shortcuts
If you restart your computer a
lot, you can add an icon to your desktop that lets you skip the Start, Shut
Down, Restart, OK procedure.
First, right-click a blank area of your desktop
and select New, then Shortcut. Click the Browse button, navigate to C:\Windows\Rundll.exe and click Open. Add one space
to the resulting command line, and then type "user.exe,ExitWindowsExec"
(without the quotes). Click Next and give your shortcut a name, then click
Finish. Whenever you double-click your new icon, Windows will restart.
(additions from my friend, Peter...thanks
Peter!)
For Windows to shutdown completely, without
restarting, use:
C:\Windows\Rundll.exe user.exe,ExitWindows
And, to shut down all programs and log on as a
new user:
C:\Windows\Rundll.exe
shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx
For LOTS more information on doing this in all
versions of Windows, read
Vic
Ferri's article in my ABC ezine.
