Resizing Graphics
for Vic's Concentration Game

These are simple, quick instructions for changing the size of your picture to 68X70 pixels in a few of the popular graphics programs.

Click on the program you wish to use:

Microsoft Paint
 (part of Windows Accessories)

If Paint is the only graphic editing program you have, this won't be easy.  This is not something Paint does real well, so if you have any of the other programs listed above, you are better off using one of them.  But if you HAVE to use Paint, here's what you have to do.

  1. Select the part of the picture you want to use, by dragging the rectangular selection tool across it.
  2. Copy it and open a new blank file and paste it in there.
  3. Say "Yes" if Paint asks you if you want the new bitmap enlarged.
  4. Go to the Image menu and choose Attributes.
  5. Note the width and height of your picture.
  6. Cancel this box and go back to the Image menu, but this time choose Stretch/Skew.
  7. In this box you will have to play around with the Stretch percentages until you get the picture enlarged or reduced to exactly 68X70px.  You will have to try a setting, then check the attributes again, then adjust the Stretch setting and check the attributes until you get it just the size you want.
  8. When it is the size you want, go to the File menu and choose Save As and save it as a .gif.

Microsoft Photo Editor
(part of the Microsoft Office Tools)

  1. Drag the Rectangular Select Tool across your picture to select the part you want to use.  See the dimensions of your selection on the Status Bar at the bottom of the window.
  2. Drag the little boxes around your selection until these dimensions are 68X70px (you may have to go to the View menu and select Measurement Units, then Pixels).
  3. Go to the Image menu and choose Crop.
  4. Accept the settings as they are and click OK.
  5. Go to the File menu and choose Save As and save it as a .gif or .jpg

Adobe PhotoShop 7.0

  1. Use the Cropping Tool to select the part of the image you want to use and hit Enter.
  2. Go to the Image menu and select Image Size.
  3. Remove the check from the box that says "Constrain Proportions" and type in 68X70 px.
  4. Go to the File menu and choose Save for Web.
  5. Accept the settings in this box and click OK.

Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7.0

  1. Use the Cropping Tool to select the part of the image you want to use.
  2. Hit the "Crop Image" button on the Tools-Options palette.
  3. Go to the Image menu and choose Resize.
  4. Remove the check from the box that says "Maintain Aspect Ratio" and put your pixel dimensions of 68X70 in the boxes above.
  5. Go to the File menu and choose Save As and save it as a .jpg or .gif
